ARCHITECT: PAOLO SOLERI (1970)

Arcosanti is architect Paolo Soleri's school/community and vision of Eden in the desert...
The shapes and volumes are interesting and often exciting... a timeless mixture of organic domes and towers.
There is a distinct sense of other-worldliness, like a setting out of Star Wars.
The craftsmanship has the roughness and warmth of hand-formed clay, not unlike the ceramic bells they sell in the gift shop.
When we visited in 1997, it had the distinct feeling of an unfinished experiment in progress... perhaps partly intentional and partly inevitable.
I hope to get another opportunity to visit the site again to see how things have developed.
